KARACHI, Aug 3: Speakers at a seminar paid homage to saint-poet of Siraiki Khwaja Ghulam Farid and said his poetry reflected Sindh’s characters in 171 of his 272 poems and they were the same as selected by Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai for his poetry.

The seminar was organised by the Pakistan Academy of Letters to commemorate the poet of seven languages Khawaja Ghulam Farid, Sufi poet of Balochi Mast Tawakali and poet of resistance movement of Sindh Ibrahim Munshi.

Speaking on the occasion, scholar and researcher of Khwaja Ghulam Farid's poetry, Muhammad Azam Saeedi termed Khwaja's poetry as a reflection of Sindhi civilization.

Poet and scholar Prof Qalandar Shah Lakyari said the status of love in Khwaja's poetry was very high. He termed Khwaja Ghulam Farid's personality as a bright sun in Siraiki poetry, adding that he also knew the Arabic, Persian, Urdu, Sindhi languages besides Siraiki.

Secretary-General of the Sindhi Adabi Sangat Dr Zulfiqar Siyyal termed Farid`s poetry as a sequel to the poetry of other renowned poets, including Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai, Maulana Rumi and Baba Farid. He said his poetry was a recognition of love with God and sympathy for humans.

Prof. Noor Muhammad Shaikh presented paper on Balochi poet Mast Tawakali and Dr Muhammad Ashraf Samo spoke on Ibrahim Munshi.
