NAROWAL: Two kilogrammes of gold worth about Rs70m that was robbed from a goldsmith has been recovered.

District Police Officer retired Capt Dost Muhammad informed Dawn that a goldsmith, named Waseem Abbas, a resident of the Sambrial area, had contacted the police helpline to complain about robbery at his home. He said that on the night between Nov 5 and 6, he was working with an employee at his home when two armed and masked robbers entered his house using a ladder. Holding them hostage at gunpoint, the robbers seized two kg of gold, silver and Rs5,000 in cash. The unidentified robbers fled the scene while brandishing weapons.

The DPO said that after the robbery, police teams cordoned off the area and launched a search operation. Due to the police’s swift action and effective containment, the suspects abandoned gold in nearby fields and fled.

The Sambrial Police Station has registered an FIR against the robbers based on a complaint filed by Waseem Abbas.
