MULTAN, Aug 1: Cattle pens will soon be shifted outside the city and mechanised cleanliness system will be introduced to make it cleaner. At a meeting of UC nazims and councillors, the City District Nazim Faisal Mukhtar said on Tuesday that shifting of pens would lessen load on the city’s sewerage system, and the ongoing work on its rehabilitation would enhance the system’s capacity significantly.

The work had also begun on some short and long-term sewerage schemes, he added.

He lauded the people and traders for cooperating in the shifting of cattle market, and their help in the ongoing campaign against encroachments.

He said all the four towns of the city would soon benefit from the mechanised cleanliness system, which would enhance solid waste disposal capacity from the existing 60 per cent to 80 per cent.

He said the CDG had acquired 50 of the total 80 containers, besides ten trucks, which would be used to keep the city clean.

To dump the solid waste, he said, land had been purchased at the old Shujabad-Vehari road, while another 90 acres of land were also being acquired for the purpose.

He said a compost plant would also be installed to recycle the solid waste to produce bio-fertilisers.—APP
