CAIRO: Britain sent the crack 1st Infantry Division into the Suez Canal zone today [Nov 2] in face of the threats that underground warfare will flare up soon in Egypt.

Socialist leader Ahmed Hussein told a youth rally that because “the Government is unable to launch regular war-fare” the people themselves must act. British General Headquarters at Fayid announced … that the first units of the division which spear-headed the Normandy invasion, arrived in the Canal zone from Tripoli. Hussein told the semi-military youth squads of his party that the Government would place no obstacle in the way of action by the people. He said he had talks with the Egyptian Cabinet Ministers following his recent release from jail.

Hussein urged the Government to prohibit trade with Britain. He said such a boycott would “paralyse” mainly their cotton mills. He called for a huge peaceful demonstration in Cairo on the November anniversary of the start of the 1939 revolution. … Premier Mustapha El Nahas Pasha warned on Thursday [Nov 1] night that Egypt will not submit to British “acts of aggression” in the Suez Canal zone. — News agencies
