KARACHI: Another trailer was set on fire by enraged people after it ran over and killed a motorcyclist on Shahrah-i-Pakistan near Karimabad on Monday, police and rescue services officials said.

A traffic police official said that the trailer hit the bike-rider on the Liaquatabad flyover. The victim, identified as Ghulam Sarwar, 55, suffered serious injuries and was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he died.

A Rescue 1122 spokesperson said the driver responsible for the fatal accident jumped from the moving heavy vehicle and fled. The trailer stopped after hitting the side wall of the flyover.

The incident angered local residents, who set the vehicle on fire.

It was the second such incident in three days. Late on Friday night, a trailer ran over and killed a pregnant woman near the Sindh Government Hospital Liaquatabad, after which an angry mob torched the heavy vehicle.

In another incident, a 30-year-old motorcyclist, identified as Talha Muhammad, was run over and killed by a trailer in Orangi Town.

The trailer driver managed to escape from the spot, leaving behind the heavy vehicle that was seized by the Pakistan Bazaar police.
