GUJRAT: The suspect involved in the murder of a bride on the day of her walima in Gujranwala was killed allegedly in ‘firing by his own accomplices during an encounter’ with the Crime Control Department (CCD) on Mado Khail Road.

As per CCD sources, a team was on its way for an operation when four people riding two motorbikes came in front of the personnel and opened firing which was also retaliated.

When the firing stopped, a suspect was found in an injured condition, said the police source and added that the suspect was later identified as Sarfraz Meher who was involved in murdering Saba Tufail on the day of her walima reception when she was on her way back home with her husband.

Sarfraz succumbed to the bullet wounds before being shifted to the hospital whereas his three accomplices managed their escape.

The CCD police also claimed to have recovered the pistol and the motorbike used in the killing of the bride.

On Oct 24, Sarfraz had shot dead Saba Tufail over the grudge of her refusal to marry him and she contracted marriage with a man of her family’s choice in Gujranwala city.

The Gujranwala CCD had lodged the case of the murder against Sarfraz, his friend Hamza and a female cousin, Aroob, who had been a friend of the deceased woman.

It was learnt that the CCD had also arrested two other suspects involved in the case.

Police sources said Sarfraz had fled to Karachi and kept on moving to interior Sindh and later reached Balochistan to avoid the arrest but he disappeared in Balochistan and was later found killed by the firing of his own accomplices in Gujranwala.
