ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Bhutto said here today [Oct 30] that by adopting bilateralism as guiding principle of its foreign policy, Pakistan “has steered itself through the treacherous shoals and currents that menace the passage of strategically placed States in the complex, contemporary age”.
In a 35-page signed article, captioned “Bila_teralism: New Directions”, Mr Bhutto observed: “Bilateralism has provided a safe chart for this kind of navigation. More importantly, it has helped Pakistan to fulfil, as well as it can, the Islamic injunction of integrity in international dealings”.
“The injunction is immutable”, he declared.
Mr Bhutto in his third article on international relations (the first was on RCD, the second on Third World) has analysed … in depth the philosophy … of bilateralism. … Mr Bhutto has also dealt with the compulsions which led Pakistan to join defence alliances.
He has made public some of the secret papers which expose the “element of naivete” and the “lack of integrity” in the then national leadership which was “tied to the interests of a limited class of entrepreneurs and bureaucrats”, who were “removed from the people’s urges and aspirations.”
