ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday directed relevant authorities for timely completion of development projects in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) including 100MW Solar Power Project.

The premier gave these directives while presiding over a meeting to review progress on development projects in GB. Chief Minister GB Amjad Hussain also attended the meeting as a special participant.

According to the PM Office, the meeting paid tribute to the people of Gilgit-Baltistan, who will celebrate on Nov 1 the historic day marking their liberation from Dogra rule and subsequent accession to Pakistan. The prime minister is expected to visit GB on Nov 1 to mark the occasion.

The meeting was presented with a report by a committee established in July 2026 on the prime minister’s directives. The report reviewed the status of ongoing federal development projects in GB, obstacles hindering their implementation and measures required to ensure their timely completion. Progress on ongoing hydropower, infrastructure and solar energy projects in GB was also reviewed, the PM Office’s press release said.

“The prime minister directed the earliest possible completion of the 100-megawatt solar power project launched by the federal government for the people of Gilgit-Baltistan,” it added.

The meeting also discussed the completion of the Naltar Power Project, strengthening counterterrorism capabilities and the installation of digital infrastructure in the region.

Prime Minister Shehbaz directed the relevant ministries and departments to accelerate work on ongoing development projects in GB and ensure the timely provision of funds required for their completion.

He instructed the authorities to remove all obstacles to project completion on a priority basis and expedite implementation through effective coordination among the relevant institutions.

The prime minister reiterated that the development of GB, provision of basic facilities to its people and improvement of their quality of life remain among the federal government’s priorities.

He further directed regular monitoring of development projects, particularly those related to energy, to ensure that the people benefit from them at the earliest.
