KARACHI: The Consulate of Italy in Karachi hosted the World Pasta Day celebrations with local stakeholders, officials, diplomats and friends of Italy.

Speaking on the occasion, Italian Consul General Fabrizio Bielli informed the gathering that this was the first time that the consulate was hosting World Pasta Day in Karachi after seeing the astounding success of the Italian Cuisine Week celebrations.

“The Consulate of Italy aims to organise more such initiatives that promote Italian culture and gastronomy in Karachi together with local partners and stakeholders doing business with Italy,” he said.

He said that Pakistan has a beautiful way of welcoming the world, and that spirit extends to embracing global cuisines and making them its own.

Whether through traditional recipes or innovative, locally inspired fusion dishes infused with distinctive aromas and flavours, Pakistan demonstrates that good food knows no borders, he said.

He highlighted that pasta is one of the most internationally recognisable Italian products and a sector of primary importance to the national agri-food system. He said in 2025, Italy produced approximately 4.2 million tonnes of pasta, with over 60 per cent destined for export.

He said its global reach makes it a key vehicle for Italian culture, identity and conviviality, as well as a hallmark of economic and manufacturing excellence.

“With more than 350 distinct shapes recognised worldwide, pasta serves as a beautiful metaphor for our diplomatic community. It reminds us that while our traditions and methodologies may differ, our core human needs and aspirations remain identical,” he concluded.
