LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has made District & Sessions Judge (D&SJ) Sardar Muhammad Akram Khan, the administrative judge of the antiterrorism court (ATC), an officer on special duty (OSD).

An Oct 28 notification issued by the LHC Registrar Abdur Raheem directed D&SJ Akram to relinquish the charge by Oct 29.

The judge will remain an OSD at the Lahore district courts until his next assignment and continue to receive the benefits attached to the post of a sessions judge.

D&SJ Akram had assumed charge of ATC No 4 on Aug 31 and served there for around two months.

On Tuesday last, the judge had heard the case of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) leader Hammad Azhar, who was presented before his court with a request to extend his physical remand in the Jinnah House attack case related to May 9 riots.

However, the judge had turned down the police request, sending Hammad to jail on a judicial remand.

Before his posting to Lahore ATC, D&SJ Akram was serving as banking court judge in Sialkot.
