LAHORE: While the government functionaries are claiming that the health of the PTI’s incarcerated founder Imran Khan’s sister, Noreen Niazi, is stable, her counsel says the civil administration has yet not allowed even the patient’s daughter to meet her at the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC).

Noreen Niazi was shifted to the PIC on Wednesday evening following her deteriorating health conditions, on the recommendation of the doctors of the Kot Lakhpat Jail, where she has been detained.

“More than 24 hours have passed since Ms Niazi was admitted to the hospital, but no family member was allowed to meet her,” counsel Rana Mudassar Umer said and added that he had submitted an application with Lahore deputy commissioner, seeking permission for a meeting of Noreen’s daughter Hajra Niazi with her mother.

Mr Umer stated that he had also submitted several applications for the meetings of the three detained sisters with their family members and lawyers, but to no avail.

PTI Central Punjab Information Secretary Faiza Murad told Dawn that the police had sealed the PIC ward, where Ms Niazi was undergoing treatment.

She observed that no information had been shared with her family members about the health, medical reports and treatment of the patient.

Ms Niazi’s family had reached the PIC soon after receiving the information about her shifting to the facility.

Meanwhile, Ms Niazi’s son, Hassan Niazi, who is also incarcerated in Kot Lakhpat Jail, has prayed for the quick recovery of his mother.

Speaking to visitors, as it was the meeting day with military prisoners, Hassan said he had not seen his mother for the last six weeks and it seemed a long time. “Until my mother is standing behind me, no jail can break me,” he said.
