PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi on Thursday said the Afghan Taliban regime tried to attack Pakistan but the security forces bravely retaliated and gave it a fitting response.
“There should be no ambiguity that anyone, who makes an attempt to undermine Pakistan’s sovereignty, will face a response similar to the one Pakistan delivered to India. Afghanistan should not forget that response,” the governor told reporters after attending the seventh convocation of the Khyber Girls Medical College (KGMC) here.
Mr Kundi said there would be no compromise on the country’s sovereignty.
The governor, who was the chief guest at the event, told reporters that anyone who provoked and crossed the border would be responded to.

Mr Kundi said that in KP, any law that required consultation and deliberation for further improvement would be looked into.
When asked about possible revocation of the Medical Teaching Institution Act, 2015, the governor said that the proposal was under discussion.
He said that the PTI had ruled the province for 13 years but made things worse and that anything that required improvement would be changed.
About the ongoing campaign against encroachments and recovery of the government land across the province, Mr Kundi said that all illegal structures would be demolished, so anyone who had occupied government land must vacate that place.
“All encroachments will be done away with,” he said.
The governor said the hostel for KP lawmakers and the KP Assembly’s building would soon be reopened.
Earlier, the governor addressed participants of the convocation and said that the female students had proved through their talent, dedication and determination that ability knew no gender and that promotion of education and healthcare remained among the provincial administration’s top priorities, according to a statement issued by his office.
He said that the administration’s goal was to establish an effective healthcare system so that patients from across the province no longer needed to seek treatment in other provinces.
The ceremony was attended by Khyber Medical University Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Rubina Naz, KGMC Dean Prof Shehzad Akbar Khan, faculty members, parents and graduating students.
Degrees were awarded to 171 MBBS graduates from the 2021, 2022 and 2023 sessions and nine postgraduate graduates. Also, a total of 86 gold medals and certificates of distinction were presented to 29 outstanding graduates.
Congratulating the graduates and their parents, Governor Kundi said that the young doctors carried a great responsibility to uphold integrity, pursue continuous learning and demonstrate compassion in serving patients throughout their professional careers.
He assured the college administration that issues concerning the Khyber Girls Medical College would be addressed on a priority basis.
The governor said that improvement in the health sector required quality medical education, modern healthcare facilities and a well-trained workforce.
He urged the newly-graduated doctors to utilise their skills for the service of humanity and ensure the provision of quality healthcare to patients.
In another statement issued by his office, the governor directed authorities to prepare a comprehensive working paper on the province’s energy sector to effectively pursue pending issues with the federal government and ensure a sustainable solution to energy-related challenges.
During a meeting on the energy and power department, Mr Kundi was briefed by adviser on energy Usman Saifullah Khan, energy secretary Zubair Khan and other senior officials on departmental affairs, ongoing development projects, pending issues with the federal government, net hydel profit dues and other matters related to the energy sector.
The meeting reviewed the progress and challenges facing the 94MW Gabral Kalam hydropower project, the 470MW Kurram Tangi (Kuria) hydropower project, the 229MW Kedam hydropower project and the Pehur project.
The participants also discussed issues relating to the oil and gas sector, gas excise duty, the LPG Policy, 2016, allocation of a 10 per cent LPG quota and the supply of 100MMCFD gas to the industrial sector.
