TOKYO: At the Korean cease-fire Sub-Committee meeting in Panmunjom today [Oct 28] general agreement is reported to have been reached on the location of the cease-fire line in Korea. United Nations observers said the talks were reaching a decisive stage. Only the location of the buffer zone now remains to be settled. The Communists have made a major concession since the truce talks were resumed, official UN spokesman revealed.

The Sub-Committee delegates meet again at 11 a.m. on Monday [Oct 29] in Panmunjom to resume discussions for the third day on where the Korean battle line exists. UN spokesman Brig-Gen William Nuckols said an agreement on the line of contact was “possible” because the Communist version of it differed from the Allied version by only two or three miles.

Nuckols also revealed that at the first session of the renewed armistice talks last week, the Reds agreed that truce line should relate to battle line — major retreat from their previous demand for cease-fire based on the 38th Parallel. For this reason, a line over exactly where the battle-front exists is more important than it appears. — News agencies
