GUJRAT: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) claimed on Wednesday to have arrested a fake official of the Foreign Affairs Liaison Office (FALO), Gujrat, when he was allegedly demanding bribes from the applicants for the attestation of their documents.

According to the FIR lodged with the Gujrat FIA circle, the complainant said the suspect, Umar Raza alias Zahid Hassan, was standing at the main gate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) office on the GT Road, Gujrat, and was found demanding bribes from the applicants visiting the office for the attestation of their documents, posing as a ministry employee.

The suspect was arrested and handed over to the local FIA officials for further investigation and legal proceedings.

A case has been registered against the suspect under Section 170 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

An FIA official said that the role of other agents, Gujrat officials of MoFA and other departments would also be probed during the investigation.

Earlier, in March this year, the MoFA had removed the head of Gujrat FALO and two other officials on the complaints of corruption in the attestation of documents after a junior official lodged a case of Rs4 million theft at his flat located near the office.
