KARACHI: The importance of early detection of breast cancer and patient support was highlighted at an event organised by the German-Pakistan Chamber of Commerce & Industry (GPCCI) here on Wednesday.

The event titled ‘Partners in Care: An Evening on Breast Cancer Awareness and German-Pakistan Cooperation in Healthcare’ was held as part of Pinktober 2026, a breast cancer awareness campaign.

It brought together healthcare professionals, business leaders and diplomatic representatives, who also highlighted cooperation between Germany and Pakistan in healthcare as the two countries mark 75 years of diplomatic relations.

The Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Karachi and GPCCI Patron, Thomas Eberhard Schultze, was the chief guest. Leading oncologists, pharmaceutical leaders, GPCCI member companies, civil society representatives and members of the business community also attended.

German diplomat praises role of healthcare professionals, hospitals and researchers in raising awareness and supporting patients

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Schultze commended GPCCI for showing how business networks could support important social causes alongside economic objectives. He encouraged open conversations about breast health and acknowledged the role of healthcare professionals, hospitals, researchers and civil society organisations in raising awareness and supporting patients.

CG Schultze described healthcare as an important area of bilateral cooperation, covering medical expertise, research, technology and pharmaceutical innovation.

He also pointed to the recent visit of President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah to Germany as evidence of the depth and strength of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

He said high-level engagements, knowledge exchange, professional networks and responsible investment could help strengthen local healthcare capacity and promote patient-centred care.

Mr Schultze also highlighted Germany’s continued support for cancer care through medical research, technology transfer and collaborative healthcare initiatives.

GPCCI President Usman Wali said business leaders and organisations had an important role in promoting health awareness, with their responsibilities extending beyond the workplace.

He urged businesses to create an environment where employees felt comfortable discussing health concerns, awareness was actively promoted and support was available to those facing difficult times, either personally or through a loved one.

He reaffirmed GPCCI’s commitment to promoting conversations about breast cancer by connecting its members, German and Pakistani businesses, and stakeholders in healthcare, medicine, pharmaceuticals, research and technology.

The speakers on this occasion collectively highlighted the importance of early detection of breast cancer as it significantly increases survival rates.

The event also featured a display of products by GPCCI member companies, particularly those in the healthcare sector exporting to Germany.
