BAJAUR: The teachers of second shift classes in government schools have shown concerns over non-payment of their salaries for the last three months and called for adopting a proper mechanism to ensure timely payment.
Talking to journalists here, All Bajaur Second-Shift Teachers Association president Mohammad Iqbal Khan said that there were more than 130 teachers for second-shift classes in dozens of overcrowded middle and high schools in the district.
He said that they had not been paid salaries for the last three months, causing great financial difficulties to manage their expenses. Accompanied by other representatives of the association, he said that it was not the first time that their salaries had been delayed.
“The provincial government has never paid our salaries on time since our appointment in March 2022, despite performing our duties with sincerity and more commitment than regular teachers,” alleged Mr Khan.
He wondered as to why the government was not paying their wages like regular teachers despite the fact that they were working on a fixed-pay basis. He claimed that unnecessary delay in payment of salaries was not only creating a financial crisis for them but also discouraging them.
The representatives of the association also accused the local education department of not taking interest in timely payment of their salaries. They demanded of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governor and other relevant officials to take notice of their issue.
