TAXILA: Flour mills in Taxila and Wah came under scrutiny by the local administration on Sunday amid concerns over alleged artificial shortages, hoarding and the illegal transportation of locally produced flour to neighbouring areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Teams led by Assistant Commissioner Dr Muhammad Anas Saeed, accompanied by officials of the food department, the Punjab Enforcement and Regulatory Authority (Pera) and the revenue department, conducted surprise inspections of various flour mills in the twin cities.
The inspections particularly focused on mills whose flour stocks had allegedly been seized during previous attempts to smuggle the commodity to parts of KP, including Khanpur and Haripur.
During the visits, officials checked flour bags, quality, weight, packaging and available stocks, besides examining the relevant records to verify compliance with official regulations.
The mill managements were directed to maintain prescribed quality standards, ensure accurate weights and packaging, keep their stock records updated and strictly comply with all applicable rules.
Talking to newsmen on this occasion, the assistant commissioner said that the inspections were part of the administration’s efforts to monitor flour production and distribution, prevent illegal diversion of supplies and ensure that consumers receive the commodity in accordance with the prescribed standards. He said that the administration would continue monitoring flour mills and take action against violations of relevant regulations.
