Regional cooperation urged to protect Palestinian rights

KARACHI: Political analysts, academics and activists from several countries have called for greater regional cooperation to protect Palestinian rights and counter Israeli policies, warning that escalating conflicts across the Middle East threaten regional peace and stability.

The call was made during an online webinar organised by Palestine Foundation Pakistan titled ‘The Centrality of Palestine in Regional Liberation, the Anti-Imperialist Struggle and the Anti-Zionist Movement’, which brought together speakers from Pakistan, Palestine, Greece, Lebanon, Yemen, Indonesia, Iraq, Iran and India.

Participants stressed that Palestine remained central to the broader struggle for human rights, self-determination and international justice, arguing that any lasting peace in the region must address the rights of the Palestinian people.

They linked tensions involving Palestine, Iran, Lebanon, Syria and Yemen to wider geopolitical rivalries and expressed concern over proposals associated with a “Greater Israel” and a “New Middle East”.

The webinar featured former Pakistani diplomat Ghulam Rasool Baloch, Palestine Foundation Pakistan Secretary-General Dr Sabir Abu Maryam, Dr Abdul Latif Haj, former Greek minister Afar Kostas, Lebanese journalist Zainab Syed Ali, Yemeni commentator Hussein al-Bukhaiti, Dr Dina Suleiman, Dr Manal Finjan, Fatima Asadi and Feroz Mithiborwala.
