KARACHI: The Sindh government on Thursday directed officials to expedite preparations for the ‘Sindh Vision Conference’ and ensure that all necessary measures were completed promptly.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the Information Department chaired by Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon.

According to an official statement, the meeting reviewed preparations and administrative arrangements for the conference, which is to be held in Sukkur.

Mr Memon, who also holds the information portfolio, said prominent journalists, political, social and business personalities from across the country were expected to attend the conference.

He said the conference aimed to raise awareness of the Sindh government’s development projects and public welfare initiatives, and highlight ongoing development activities in the province and the government’s priorities.

The meeting also discussed ways to address issues faced by journalists and journalistic organisations, improve the journalism sector, and review media-related matters and the performance of the Information Department.

The government’s measures to ease the difficulties faced by journalists and better resolve issues concerning journalistic organisations were also reviewed.

The senior minister said the Sindh government was taking serious measures to promote journalism, protect freedom of expression and resolve the issues faced by journalists.

He said journalists played an important role in society and made significant contributions to highlighting public issues and providing accurate information to the public.

“Resolving the issues of journalists and journalistic organisations is among the government’s priorities,” he said.

The minister directed the relevant officials to prioritise media-related matters and take effective steps to resolve outstanding issues.

The meeting was attended by Secretary Information Kashif Gulzar Shaikh, Director Advertisement Muhammad Yousuf Kabooro, Deputy Director Sarang Latif Chandio and other relevant officials of the Information Department.
