PESHAWAR: Complaints of prolonged and unscheduled power outages have increased in Peshawar and other parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with residents reporting low voltage and disruptions to water supplies.
People in areas adjoining Peshawar Saddar, including Bara Gate, Shaheen Colony, Achinee, Ring Road and Haarkhwani, said unscheduled loadshedding had increased and voltage had dropped, making it difficult to operate tubewells and obtain water.
They said the situation was affecting households as well as mosques where worshippers were often unable to find water for ablution.
Other affected areas include Charsadda Road, Chamkani, Matani and several localities along Warsak Road.
Residents also complained that disruptions in electric supply affected the availability of natural gas in some areas, forcing them to purchase liquefied petroleum gas cylinders as an alternative fuel.
They said that LPG dealers were not selling gas at notified rates and had fixed their own prices, with the administration failing to crack down on them.
The residents said the current provincial administration was responsible for ensuring the provision of basic utilities, including electricity and gas, to people, so it should take immediate steps to address unscheduled loadshedding and low voltage.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) said essential maintenance of electricity infrastructure had begun across its region, affecting power supply to some areas.
He said the work included trimming trees and branches, repairing grid stations and power lines and carrying out other development-related activities.
The spokesperson said power suspension was necessary in areas where maintenance work was under way.
He said different maintenance activities were being coordinated so that grid-related, construction and maintenance work could be completed simultaneously instead of obtaining separate permits and suspending power supplies repeatedly.
The spokesperson advised consumers to visit the Pesco website or Facebook page to check the maintenance schedule. He said the maintenance would be completed soon, restoring electric supply.
