CHITRAL: The Local Government and Rural Development Department (LG&RDD), Lower Chitral, has completed work on a monument at the zero point of Chitral-Shandur Road, transforming the city’s entrance under the Chitral City beautification project.
The newly constructed landmark has quickly become a public attraction, drawing visitors from different parts of the town who gather to admire the structure and take photographs and videos. Featuring Arabic calligraphy on all four sides, the monument has been popularly dubbed “Tauheed Chowk” by local residents, with the name rapidly gaining attraction on social media.
The monument was designed by Fahim, Senior Assistant Engineer at LG&RDD Lower Chitral, and constructed under the round-the-clock supervision of his dedicated technical team.
Developed as part of a broader initiative to enhance Chitral’s urban landscape, the landmark aims to give residents and tourists a more attractive and welcoming first impression of the city. Following the completion of the structure at Chew Bridge Chowk, decorative lighting was installed to illuminate the monument after sunset, adding to its visual appeal and making it a prominent feature for evening commuters and visitors.
The initiative has received widespread appreciation on social media, where local residents have praised the monument for reflecting Chitral’s cultural identity and Islamic heritage. The positive public response has also generated expectations for similar beautification projects at other prominent intersections across the city.
Local government officials have indicated that further initiatives would be undertaken in the coming phases to improve the appearance of key urban locations and modernise the city’s public spaces.
