RAWALPINDI: Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation (RMC) on Thursday gave approval of 660 cases of commercial and residential building plans while deciding to review buildings plans approved in last three years whether or not approved according to law.
A meeting regarding the approval process for commercial and residential building plans, as well as the status of pending cases within the jurisdiction of the Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation (RMC), was held at the office of the Deputy Commissioner, retired Captain Nadeem Nasir.
The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner (Social Services) Fazail Mudassar, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Municipal Services) Junaid Alam, the Chief Officer of the Municipal Corporation, and other relevant officials.
During the briefing, it was stated that out of a total of 712 cases concerning the approval of building plans, 660 have been processed, while work is ongoing on the remaining 52. Among the pending cases, 14 are in the final stages of completion, 17 have had objections raised against them, and 21 have been rejected.
The deputy commissioner directed that details of all commercial building plans approved over the last three years be compiled and presented, enabling an effective review of the approval process. Furthermore, addressing complaints received regarding field staff, he ordered the immediate transfer of the officials concerned.
Emphasising schemes for the construction and rehabilitation of roads, he stated that construction quality must be ensured in all projects without exception.
He further called for the formulation of a comprehensive and effective plan to remove encroachments from streets, pathways, and roads.
The deputy commissioner also directed that the costs for restoration be recovered from the relevant departments responsible for cutting into the roads, and that the immediate repair and rehabilitation of the affected roads be ensured. He made it clear that all development projects must be cost-effective, of high quality, and aligned with the needs of the public; no compromise on construction standards will be tolerated.
He instructed the relevant officers to ensure the timely completion of all ongoing projects, specifying that they must be finalised by April in accordance with the established targets.
