KARACHI: A sessions court has granted interim bail to an official of the Railways police in a case pertaining to alleged kidnapping and assault on the director of City Wardens of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) on Oct 18.
The director, Saim Imran Khan, had registered a case at the Sharea Faisal police station against Railways police SHO Ahsan Rasheed and others for offences committed under Sections 365 (kidnapping or abducting with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine person), 342 (punishment for wrongful confinement), and 337-A (i) (punishment of shajjah) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
Thereafter, the SHO moved a pre-arrest bail application through his counsel Mehmood Hussain before the additional district and sessions judge (East).
After a preliminary hearing, the court granted him interim bail against a surety of Rs30,000 and directed the police to produce the case file in court on Oct 23.
In the FIR, the KMC official alleged that on Oct 18, while performing his official duties at Natha Khan Bridge, the SHO arrived at the scene along with his officers and began beating and manhandling him. He said he was later “forcibly put” in a Railways police mobile and taken to an unknown location, where he was “illegally” detained.
He claimed that he was tortured until he became unconscious and regained consciousness at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
However, the Railways police presented a different version of the incident in its counter-FIR registered against the KMC officials under terrorism charges.
