LAHORE: The Virtual Women Police Station (VWPS) of the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) claimed to have facilitated women in 450,973 cases across Punjab during the last 10 months.

In a report released on Tuesday, it stated that 22,651 first information reports (FIRs) were registered during the period with the assistance of the VWPS.

A PSCA spokesperson says the facility continues to play a pivotal role in protecting women, empowering survivors and improving their access to justice through technology-driven policing.

He says the initiative has made it easier for women across Punjab to report crimes, seek legal guidance and access police without physically visiting a police station.

The spokesperson says the VWPS provides women with a convenient and accessible channel to report harassment, domestic violence, threats and other criminal offences.

Through this initiative, he says, women can seek police assistance from the comfort of their homes, reducing the difficulties often associated with visiting a conventional police station.

Depending on the nature of a complaint, officers also contact the affected women through video call to obtain details of an incident and facilitate coordination with the relevant police authorities.

The platform provides guidance on complaint registration, legal procedures and access to the appropriate authorities, helping the affected women navigate the process of seeking assistance.

According to the spokesperson, the VWPS also provides an avenue for women who may hesitate to report crimes because of social pressure, fear or other barriers. By enabling them to approach the police through an accessible and confidential channel, the initiative seeks to encourage reporting, strengthen public confidence and improve access to justice.

The spokesperson emphasised that women facing harassment, violence, threats or any other distressing situation can seek immediate assistance by calling Emergency Helpline 15 and pressing 2 to connect with the VWPS.
