SAHIWAL: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested an assistant lineman of the Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco) redhanded while accepting a Rs30,000 bribe at the Shah Murad SubDivision Office, Harappa.

Samina Bibi, wife of Hanif Masih of Jinnah Town, Harappa, submitted a written complaint to the FIA deputy director, stating that after constructing her house on a plot in Jinnah Town, she had applied for an electricity meter.

She alleged that Lineman Rizwan and Assistant Lineman Muhammad Shahid demanded Rs35,000 in bribe from her, threatening not to install the meter otherwise. Later, a deal was done for Rs30,000.

Acting on the complaint, FIA SHO Khalid Saeed, accompanied by Judicial Magistrate Sardar Umar Hassan Khan, conducted a raid and apprehended Shahid while receiving the bribe. The marked notes were seized as evidence. FIA Sahiwal registered a case and got a remand for the suspect.

BREAST CANCER: Breast cancer among women in Pakistan remains a serious public health concern, but experts emphasise that it is a treatable disease, if diagnosed at an early stage.

This is stressed by Professor Dr Zahid Sattar, head of the Department of Surgery, Sahiwal Medical College while addressing a seminar at the Barani Institute of Sciences, Sahiwal Campus.

The seminar was organised on the occasion of International Breast Cancer Awareness Day.

Dr Sattar urged the women over 18 to perform a monthly self-examination and consult a doctor in case of any lump, change in skin colour or unusual discharge.

He stressed that women above 40 must undergo mammography at least once a year, adding that comprehensive diagnostic and treatment facilities were available at Sahiwal Teaching Hospital.
