SWABI: Police on Tuesday arrested two brothers on the charges of assaulting a teenage girl, who died at the hospital during treatment, a senior official said.

Swabi district police officer (DPO) Waqas Rafiq said that the 17-year-old girl had gone to her sister’s house in the Malikabad area, where Younas and Daud, her in-laws, assaulted and tortured her.

The DPO said that he had formed a team to establish facts and arrest the suspects.

He said the victim was given a toxic substance, which worsened her condition, and she died during treatment at the hospital.

Mr Rafiq said that the team conducted investigations from various angles using modern investigation tools and available evidence.

Later, he said that the police arrested Younas and Daud, residents of the Malikabad area of Razaar tehsil.

He said that a case had been registered against them under sections 302, 376, 337-J and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of the deceased girl’s mother.
