DERA ISMAIL KHAN: The district education officer (female), Dera Ismail Khan, has declared appointment orders of 35 female primary school teachers void and ordered recovery of salaries allegedly drawn by them from the government exchequer.

According to a departmental notification issued by District Education Officer (Female) Syeda Anjum, the action followed an inquiry and verification of official records, payroll data and the physical presence of the teachers at their recorded places of posting. The notification stated that the 35 women were not performing duties at their assigned schools or at any other school or office under the education department.

The department said their names, however, remained active on the official payroll and salaries were being drawn under the codes of the relevant drawing and disbursing officers.

The notification further said repeated attempts to verify the current postings and available addresses of the individuals had failed. Show-cause notices were subsequently published in newspapers in August 2026, giving the affected individuals seven days to produce their appointment orders, selection records, joining reports, posting orders and other relevant documents.

On the basis of the available record and departmental proceedings, the district education officer declared the appointments void from the outset and ordered termination of their services and contracts, where applicable.

The notification also directed the authorities concerned to provide details of salary payments and instructed the relevant sub-divisional education officer (female) to initiate legal proceedings over the alleged fake appointments and recover the salaries paid to the individuals.

The department said copies of the order had also been sent to relevant departmental authorities and the anti-corruption establishment.

Officials said the alleged appointments were made in 2022, while departmental action in the matter was initiated in August 2026. The affected women have also been accused by the department of obtaining government salaries on the basis of allegedly fake appointment orders.

The latest action follows the dismissal of 23 female teachers in June 2026 in a similar case, according to the education department.
