PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi on Tuesday called for political consensus to secure KP’s rights and ensure lasting peace in the province.

He stated this during a meeting with Jamaat-i-Islami’s naib emir Prof Mohammad Ibrahim during a visit to the party’s central office here.

JI Khyber Pakhtunkhwa North emir Inayatullah Khan, central districts emir Abdul Wasay, Hazara division emir Abdul Razzaq Abbasi, former MNA Sabir Hussain Awan and other party leaders were also in attendance.

Both sides exchanged views on the challenges facing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, public issues and various proposals for their resolution.

They also discussed provincial development, employment opportunities for youth and the promotion of agriculture, information technology and other key sectors.

Matters relating to drainage problems in Peshawar, ongoing development projects and improvement of civic amenities also came under discussion.

Speaking on the occasion, Governor Kundi said agriculture was the backbone of the national economy, adding that bringing the lands of the southern districts under cultivation could significantly help meet the province’s agricultural needs.

He said promotion of the information technology sector was the need of the hour and stressed that investment in IT and modern technological training for youth would create wide-ranging employment opportunities.

The governor said the welfare of police personnel and the families of police martyrs remained among the government’s priorities. He emphasised that durable peace was essential for sustainable development and made it clear that no compromise would be made on maintaining law and order.

He said indiscriminate operations against encroachments and efforts to improve sanitation were continuing across the province, adding that effective measures were needed to enhance governance and provide better civic facilities to the people.

Governor Kundi said issues relating to hydel net profit, electricity, the National Finance Commission Award and other matters concerning the federal government were directly linked to the constitutional rights of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He urged all political parties to make joint efforts for securing the province’s legitimate rights and sought Jamaat’s support in this regard.

The governor reaffirmed his commitment to continuing consultations with all political and social stakeholders to ensure lasting peace, resolve public problems, improve governance and promote sustainable development in the province.
