Factory gutted by fire

KARACHI: A huge fire broke out at a factory in the SITE industrial area near Metroville on Monday.

Rescue 1122 spokesperson Hassanul Haseeb Khan told Dawn that the fire had erupted at an industrial unit, Mundia Exports, housed in a ground-plus-two-storey building. He said the presence of combustible materials had caused the flames to spread rapidly. The situation became critical when the boiler also caught fire.

Given the gravity of the situation, the blaze was declared a category three fire.

He said the fire had severely damaged the building’s structure.

A fire had also broken out in another portion of the factory on Friday but had been brought under control. Monday’s blaze erupted in another portion or extension of the same factory, he added.
