There was no issue of the paper on Oct 17, 1976, owing to Liaquat Ali Khan’s death anniversary. The excerpt below is taken from the previous day’s edition.

UNITED NATIONS: Pakistan steadfastly defended the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination in a running debate with India last evening [Oct 14], that dominated the proceedings of the General Assembly’s Third Committee. … …Pakistan’s delegate Munir Akram answered point-by-point New Delhi’s claim that Kashmir was its integral part, that the accession to India was final, and that it was an internal matter of that country. Emphasising that Pakistan would state the “facts and expose the fiction”, Mr Akram … reminded India of some of the statements of late Pandit Nehru.

[Meanwhile, as reported by news agencies from Beirut,] a mini-summit of six Arab leaders on Lebanon will be held in Riyadh tomorrow [Oct 16] as chances of a full Arab summit to settle the Lebanese war in Cairo appear to be dwindling... . ... [A] Saudi communique said the Riyadh meeting will study the “deterioration and seriousness of the situation in Lebanon”.
