TAXILA: A 45-year-old man allegedly killed his wife and then took his life following a domestic dispute in the Formali village in Hazro town of Attock, police sources said on Thursday.

The deceased were identified as Mohammad Mushtaq and his wife, Ayesha Bibi.

According to police, Mushtaq allegedly strangled his wife and subjected her to an electric shock before taking his own life by electrocution.

The incident reportedly occurred after Ayesha Bibi filed an application for khula (judicial dissolution of marriage) in court following persistent domestic disputes.

The couple’s son named Mohammad Noman, in his statement to police, said his parents frequently quarrelled and that his mother had repeatedly sought a divorce before approaching the court for khula.

Mushtaq was employed as a Class-IV worker at the District Headquarters Hospital in Attock and was the father of two children, police said.

On getting information, police reached the scene where investigators collected evidence and launched an inquiry to establish the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

Moreover, a butcher committed suicide on Thursday in Mohallah Mashraqiabad in the limits of Taxila Police Station.

Police sources said Javaid Akhter was in distress due to a loan he took from local investors at interest, who forced him to pay the outstanding amount. He closed himself in a room and allegedly took his own life.

In another incident, the body of a man was found in a deserted area in a private housing society in the limits of the same police station.

Separately, a 25-year-old man was killed after being run over by the Karachi-bound Awam Express coming from Peshawar near the railway track in Mohalla Chak Muzaffarabad, Taxila, rescue officials said. The deceased was identified as Tayyab Saeed, 25. Rescue 1122 dispatched an emergency vehicle to the scene after receiving information about the incident. However, the man had died before the rescue team arrived, officials said.

The body was shifted to the tehsil headquarters hospital for autopsy. Police registered separate cases and launched further investigation.
