TAXILA: Former interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has announced plans to field candidates in the upcoming local government elections.

The announcement came during a political meeting held at the residence of former Chakri union council chairman Chaudhry Ghulam Qamar, attended by representatives of seven union councils of Chontra, local political figures and a large number of residents.

According to Sheikh Zeeshan Saeed, spokesperson for the former minister, Chaudhry Nisar announced that his group will contest the upcoming local government elections across every ward of the relevant areas.

Addressing the gathering, Chaudhry Nisar said his group would field candidates in every ward across Taxila, Wah, Rawat, Adiala Road, Chontra and Chakri if local government elections were held.

He said the electoral contest would determine the strength of candidates through public support, adding that the decision regarding the chairmanship should reflect the candidates’ electoral performance.

Commenting on the national political situation, he said injustice should not be done to Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf founder Imran Khan. Referring to his relationship with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, he remarked that the latter was his friend.

The meeting focused on preparations for the forthcoming local government elections, grassroots representation and coordination among political representatives from the seven union councils.
