BAHAWALPUR: Another fleet of 13 e-buses reached Bahawalpur on Wednesday.

According to Punjab Assembly Deputy Speaker Malik Zaheer Iqbal Channar, with the arrival of the second fleet, the total number of e-buses in Bahawalpur city was now 35, which he claimed was the highest number in any big city of the province.

Mr Channar said that with the addition of these buses, new routes would be opened for the convenience of citizens. The district administration in consultation with elected lawmakers would decide the routes soon, he added.

ARRESTED: The Vehari Tibba Sultanpur police claimed to have arrested the suspected rapist-cum-killer of an eight-year-old boy.

According to the Vehari Police spokesperson, the arrest was made after continuous raids by the police. However, the complainant, the victim’s father, claimed that the suspect had surrendered to the police after the registration of the case against him.

He had alleged in his complaint that when his son went to the suspect’s house to drink water, he attempted to sexually assault him. He claimed that when the child offered resistance, he shot him dead.

Meanwhile, the police, after conducting a postmortem examination at a local hospital, handed over the child’s body to his parents. The victim was laid to rest at a local graveyard.

ACCIDENTS: Two persons, including a woman, died while two others suffered injuries in two separate road accidents in Bahawalpur and Vehari districts on Wednesday.

According to Rescue 1122, in one incident, Shumaila (20), a teacher at a private school, was going to school with her uncle on a motorcycle. The bike was rear-ended by a speeding trailer near Adda Zahirpeer, Mamamywala in Ahmedpur East tehsil. Her family members shifted her body to their residence before a rescue team arrived at the scene.

Later, police reached the scene and took the trailer’s driver into custody for legal proceedings.

In the second accident, Vehari municipal committee employee Hafiz Muhammad Imran was killed while two rickshaw drivers suffered injuries when a Mazda truck hit them on the Khanewal Road in Vehari.

Rescue 1122 said Imran was on-duty and was issuing MC tax tickets to recover fees from rickshaws when the recklessly driven truck hit two parked rickshaws. They said that Imran was crushed under the wheels of the truck, while two rickshaw drivers suffered injuries and were shifted to the Vehari DHQ Hospital. Police had arrested the truck driver.
