ISLAMABAD: A 29-year-old woman gave birth to healthy triplet boys at Dr Akbar Niazi Teaching Hospital (ANTH), with the entire cost of her treatment and delivery covered under the Prime Minister’s National Health Programme.

The delivery also comes as ANTH has increased its support to the public healthcare system by accommodating additional gynaecological cases following the fire at a government hospital in which initially 14 newborns lost their lives and later the 15th one also died.

The mother, a resident of Islamabad, was undergoing her first pregnancy after two years of marriage. The three babies weighed 2kg, 2.4kg and 2.3kg at birth and, along with their mother, were reported to be in stable condition under medical supervision.

The high-risk pregnancy was managed by a specialised team headed by Dr Bushra Kant, head of the hospital’s gynaecology department. The medical team provided specialised care to ensure a safe delivery and appropriate postnatal treatment for the mother and newborns.
