PESHAWAR: Awami National Party (ANP) central president Senator Aimal Wali Khan has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of precious lives in recent attacks on Saudi Arabia and expressed solidarity with the Saudi leadership and people.

According to a statement issued here on Tuesday, the ANP chief in a letter addressed to Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, said the security, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Saudi Arabia were of exceptional importance to the people of Pakistan.

He said the holy cities of Makkah and Madina held a unique place in the hearts and faith of Muslims across the world, adding that any threat to the security of the holy sites was a matter of concern for the entire Muslim world.

Mr Khan noted that Saudi Arabia was a major source of employment and dignified livelihoods for millions of Pakistanis, particularly Pakhtun workers.

For decades, he said, the kingdom had provided employment and economic opportunities to Pakistani citizens, supporting the livelihoods of millions of families.

He warned that any damage to Saudi Arabia’s economy, infrastructure or stability could have serious economic consequences for Pakistani and Pakhtun workers and their families.

The ANP president expressed the hope that the Saudi leadership would use its wisdom, foresight and diplomatic insight to find a peaceful and lasting solution to the current situation, ensuring the kingdom’s security while promoting peace and stability across the region.

He stressed that dialogue, restraint and responsible leadership were essential to preventing further loss of life and stopping the conflict from spreading.

Mr Khan said diplomatic efforts and peaceful means should be prioritised over further escalation to achieve lasting peace in the region.

Reaffirming his party’s solidarity with Saudi Arabia, he said the ANP stood with the kingdom’s leadership and people during this period of grief and uncertainty.

He also extended his best wishes for peace, security and stability in Saudi Arabia and the wider region, while praying for patience and strength for the affected families and for the continued safety and sanctity of the holy sites.
