PESHAWAR, Feb 10: The Frontier government is planning to shift the central jail from its present location in the heart of the city to Jalozai, a locality on the eastern outskirts of Peshawar where a sprawling refugee camp is situated.

Construction work on the proposed prison building would start soon, said NWFP Governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah, while performing the ground-breaking ceremony of the road widening project of Warsak Road here on Sunday.

Peshawar Corps Commander Lt-Gen Ali Mohammad Jan Orakzai, provincial minister Shamsul Mulk, Peshawar city district Nazim Azam Afridi, Nazimeen, councillors and a large number of elite of the area attended the ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, the governor said that Peshawar city was neglected in the past, as a result of which the problems of its residents multiplied.

He said that the present government had resolved to solve the problems of people and initiated several development projects.

Giving details of the proposed projects for Peshawar, the governor said that these included expansion of Khyber Road, G. T. Road from Chughulpura to Surray Pul (Rehman Baba Square), improvement of University Road, and construction of flyover at the Surray Pul and construction of Canal Road.

Earlier, the governor unveiled the plaque and inaugurated the construction work on the widening of Warsak Road.

He said that the Warsak Road project was the third such project, which had been planned for the development of the Peshawar city.
