National Women’s T20 starts today

LAHORE: Invincibles will take on Challengers in the opening match of the five-team National Women’s T20 Tournament, starting at the Bohranwali Ground in Faisalabad on Saturday.

On the same day, Conquerors face Stars at the Jawad Club Ground in Faisalabad.

Strikers, the fifth team in the tournament, will play their opening match against Challengers at the Jawad Club Ground on Sunday.

Defending champions Stars will continue to be led by Tuba Hassan, while last edition’s runners-up Invincibles will be captained by Gull Feroza. Challengers will be led by Ayesha Zafar while wicket-keeper/batter Muneeba Ali will captain Conquerors.

Pakistan women’s team captain Fatima Sana will lead Strikers.

A total of 75 players will feature in the tournament, with each team comprising a 15-member squad. Of these, six players are currently part of the Pakistan U-19 squad participating in the women’s tri-series in Faisalabad. They will join their respective teams following the conclusion of the tri-series.

The tournament carries a prize money of over Rs3 million, with the winners receiving Rs1.5 million and the runners-up taking home Rs1 million.

Overall, 21 matches will be played on a double-league basis with each team playing at least eight matches before the top two sides qualify for the final. The final will be played at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad on Oct 25.
