HYDERABAD, July 28: Activist of the Sindh Education Alliance on Friday locked offices of the education department, including office of the EDO education. They held a protest sit-in on the road outside the EDO’s office in Hirabad and raised slogans against Sindh Education Minister Dr Hamida Khuhro.

The EDO opened the lock of the gate and offices.

When information reached protesting teachers, they again put a lock on the EDO’s secretariat.

The employees who had been stranded in the office raised hue and cry.

A heavy contingent of police rushed to the spot and broke open the locks of offices and remained there till the closing time.

The alliance leaders said that the protest would continue till lifting of the ban on employees’ and teachers’ associations.

OSD: The OSD to the Sindh education minister, Mansoor Qadir Junejo, said that the government would not succumb to blackmail of leaders of the alliance.

He was talking to a group of journalists at the Hyderabad press club on Friday.

He said that lists were being prepared and those who were violating the ban would be sent packing under the law.

He said that the decision to ban teachers’ and employees’ associations would not be rescinded.

He said that there were 4,500 office-bearers of different teachers’ organisations who never took classes.

As a result, he said, about 3,500 schools were lying closed in Sindh.
