THIS is with reference to the report “Mir Raza commission reprimands first investigator over ‘zero work’” (Sept 18). The horrific murder of the young business-man in Karachi had shaken the conscience of the city. Weeks have passed, yet the police have failed to provide any concrete leads, let alone arrest the culprit. This is not just a failure of investigation; it is a failure of the entire system that is supposed to protect its citizens.
The police force in Karachi, plagued by corruption and incompetence, appears more interested in press statements than actual police work. High-ranking officers make promises on TV, but on the ground there is no progress, no transparency, and no urgency. The government’s response has been equally illogical; full of rhetoric, but devoid of action or a clear plan to bring the killers to justice. What makes this even more painful is the sheer hypocrisy. We are told daily about the ‘rule of law’ and ‘zero tolerance for crime’, but the reality is that families are left running from one office to another with no answers.
The deceased businessman deserved better. His family deserves answers. The people of Karachi deserve a police force and a government that work for them, not the ones that hide behind excuses.
The authorities concerned should treat this case with the seriousness it demands. If the police and government are this incompetent in investigating a high-profile murder, who is safe in this city?
