Moot on role of ombudsman office

LAHORE: The Punjab ombudsman office is holding an international conference to mark 30 years of its service to the citizens of the province, says a release.

The two-day event titled “The role of ombudsman institutions in strengthening accountability, governance, and citizens’ rights” began on Wednesday at a local hotel.

Delegates from Papua New Guinea, South Africa, West Cameroon, Zambia, Azerbaijan, Russia, Mauritius, Cameroon’s North-West Region, Nigeria, Switzerland, Italy, Ukraine, Andorra, Türkiye, Kyrgyz Republic, Macao, Bahrain, Timor-Leste and the Philippines are participating in the conference.

In her opening remarks, Ombudsman Punjab Ayesha Hamid welcomed the delegates. Federal Ombudsman Pakistan Naveed Kamran Baloch, along with Aneeta Ghoorah of Mauritius, Sharof Azizov of Switzerland and Sergey Buberkin of the Russian Federation, also addressed the opening ceremony.

The conference marks three decades of the Punjab ombudsman’s institutional journey and highlights its growing engagement with the international ombudsman community.
