Woman, along with her brothers, ‘tortures mother-in-law to death’ in Lodhran

BAHAWALPUR: A married woman, along with her brothers, allegedly tortured her elderly mother-in-law to death during a dispute over moving her dowry items to a separate house, where she intended to live with her husband, at Basti Haveli, Mauza Babli Sharif, Lodhran district.

According to Jalalpur Pirwala Saddar police, Mehwish Bibi, wife of Nasir, had been living with her in-laws. However, she developed differences with her in-laws after which the couple decided to move to a separate house.

On Wednesday, when Mehwish and her brothers -- Ali and Usman -- tried to move her dowry items, including furniture, from the house of Nasir’s parents, his elderly mother, Ashoo Mai (75), exchanged harsh words with them.

This annoyed Mehwish and her brothers, who allegedly subjected Ashoo Mai to torture with clubs, put a rope around her neck and dragged her, resulting in instant death of the elderly woman. After her death, Mehwish and her brother fled the scene.

On being informed of the incident, a police team, along with forensic and crime scene units, reached the scene, collected evidences and shifted the body to the local tehsil headquarters hospital. The hospital doctors conducted the postmortem examination.

The police say they are waiting for the postmortem report and complaint from victim’s family for registration of a murder case against the suspects.

RAPED: A vagabond allegedly raped a nine-year old girl in the limits of Sahooka police in Vehari district.

According to the police, the girl, ‘F’, was returning home from a tandoor, when the suspect, ‘UB’, allegedly lured her to his house, where he raped her.

On hearing the girl’s screams, some locals rushed to the scene, overpowered the suspect and handed him over to police.

The girl was rushed to hospital in serious condition.

GIRL ABDUCTED: A couple has demanded that Lodhran Saddar police should recover their young daughter, who was allegedly abducted, and arrest the nominated suspects, who kidnapped her.

The complainants, Hanif and his wife Bakh Bhai, residents of Mauza Wahi Mohan Mull, Lodhran district, told the media that their daughter Muqaddas (19) was allegedly abducted by the suspects, includingAshraf Khan Pathan, Paina Khan, Akbar Khan and Naeem.

They said though Lodhran Saddar police had registered the abduction case against the suspects but none of them had so far been arrested.

The couple also alleged that the suspects were hurling threats at them for pursuing the case.

FUNDS RELEASED: The Punjab government has released funds to the tune of Rs7 billion for different uplift projects, including construction of a stadium, at a cost of about Rs200 million, at Mailsi in Vehari district.

According to MPA Naeem Akhtar Bhabha the other projects for which funds have been released, include construction of 40km-long road from Mailsi to Tibba Sultanpur and other link roads in the area.
