BAJAUR: Scores of students of various government primary schools, both boys and girls, have yet to be provided with textbooks in Bajaur district, Dawn has learnt.

Residents of different regions of the district, including Lowi Mamund, War Mamund, Salarzai, Nawagai and Barang tehsils, told this correspondent that their children studying in government primary schools were still deprived of a number of textbooks provided free of cost by the local education department.

“There are numerous students of different classes in government primary schools for both boys and girls in different areas who have yet to be provided textbooks by the local education department, including general science, despite the passage of several months since the start of the new academic session in the first week of April,” said Ayaz Khan, a resident of Lowi Mamund tehsil.

The residents said the non-availability of books was affecting the education of students, as the books were needed for study both at school and for homework.

Some residents claimed the missing books were available with the local education department, but they did not know why they were not being provided to students.

Meanwhile, an official of the local education department, when contacted, admitted that some students might not have received certain books on time due to delays in their delivery to the department.

However, the official, who requested anonymity, said he would take up the issue with the relevant officials to ensure the immediate provision of the missing books to all students who had yet to receive them.
