ISLAMABAD: A committee constituted by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to introduce reforms at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) held its first meeting on Wednesday and began deliberations on restructuring the hospital’s administrative, medical and governance systems.
Minister for Health Mustafa Kamal, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar and Establishment Secretary Barrister Nabeel Awan attended the meeting.
Additional Attorney General Chaudhry Amir Rehman, Higher Education Commission Chairman Syed Tariq Rafi, Additional Secretary Health Liaquat Ahmed, retired Maj Gen Dr Azhar Mahmood Kayani, Pims Executive Director Dr Tanwir Khaliq and Joint Executive Director retired Brig Azmat Mahmood were also present.
The meeting discussed a range of proposals aimed at improving Pims’ administrative and medical systems, according to an official statement.
Participants reviewed measures to improve the quality of healthcare services, patient safety, medical facilities and infrastructure at the hospital.
The committee also conducted a detailed review of Pims’ existing administrative and medical performance, identifying administrative gaps, governance-related challenges and institutional issues requiring attention.
Various proposals were discussed for the sustainable restructuring of Pims, including development of an effective administrative structure and an autonomous, transparent governance framework.
