CANINE ATTACK

CANINE ATTACK: A few days ago, I came across a video on social media showing a pack of stray dogs pounce upon a resident in the early hours of the day. The video was not of some rural area. It was of a rather posh locality in Karachi. The Defence Housing Authority (DHA) in Karachi should learn a thing or two from the case, and take corrective action because stray dogs have become a common sight in the area. Residents should be advised not to feed stray dogs, and those active in the domain of animal rights should work with DHA vigilance staff in order to make the community safer for everyone.

CONGESTED CITY: Islamabad, once known for its relatively smooth traffic, is now regularly crippled by severe congestion. Even routine rain brings the capital to a standstill. Major arteries face long traffic jams, with waterlogging and reduced visibility making the situation worse. The problem is not limited to weather. Multiple police pickets, frequent road closures, ongoing construction, and the rapid increase in private vehicles have turned daily commuting into an ordeal. Commuters waste hours every day, fuel consumption rises, air quality suffers, and emergency vehicles struggle to move. The economic and psychological cost of this chaos is significant for the residents. The authorities need a comprehensive, long-term plan to resolve the traffic problem.

PENDING CASES of PENSION: Apparently, the director-general (DG) of the Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation (PBC) has been burdened with several assignments in addition to his PBC duties, resulting in piling up of pension cases since July. When contacted, the relevant staff says he rarely comes to the PBC headquarters owing to his ‘other’ engage-ments, and clears the pending cases only when he is not busy in meetings elsewhere. This is obviously causing a lot of trouble and distress to a lot of people. The DG should focus on what happens to be his priority placement.
