HYDERABAD: Lawyers’ leaders have warned that they will march on Islamabad if what they called conspiracies to divide Sindh are not ended. They said lawyers would continue to play their role in protecting people’s fundamental rights, the independence of the judiciary and the supremacy of law.

They were speaking at the All Sindh Lawyers Convention, organised by the Hyderabad chapter of the High Court Bar Association (HCBA) on Saturday. A joint declaration was issued at the convention.

Among those who spoke were HCBA president Ayaz Tunio, Sindh Bar Council vice chairman Ishtiaq Memon, Sindh Bar Council members Hashim Leghari and K. B. Laghari, HCBA Karachi president Haseeb Jamali, Amir Nawaz Warraich, Mir Mangrio, Hyderabad District Bar Association president Shakir Nawaz Shar, its secretary Abdul Razaq Dars, and Imdad Unnar.

The declaration said the legal fraternity would continue to work for the supremacy of law, the protection of fundamental human rights and the independence of the judiciary. The leaders stressed the need for unity among lawyers to strengthen their voice, and said a joint strategy should be devised on national and provincial issues.

The speakers said they would continue to press their stance on Sindh’s integrity and launch a joint struggle to protect it, adding that there could be no compromise on the matter. They also vowed to remain united in defence of Sindh’s resources.
