LAHORE: The Lahore Arts Council organised a special workshop, “From Lines to Portraits,” at the Colin David Studio, Alhamra, introducing young participants to the creative possibilities of scribble portraiture under the guidance of artist Numaira Javed.
The workshop offered participants a hands-on exploration of how seemingly random lines and abstract forms can be transformed into expressive and meaningful portraits.
Numaira Javed demonstrated creative approaches to observation, proportion, structure, facial expressions, and composition, sharing practical techniques drawn from her artistic experience and encouraging the participants to explore unconventional forms of visual expression.
Through practical exercises, participants developed an understanding of the fundamentals of portrait-making and experimented with contemporary techniques under the artist’s guidance. The interactive format enabled them to translate observation into visual expression while exploring their own creative approaches to portraiture.
LAC Executive Director Muhammad Nawaz Gondal said that providing young people with practical exposure to contemporary art forms remained an important part of Alhamra’s cultural and educational mandate. He said the training initiatives of the Alhamra Academy of Performing Arts were creating meaningful opportunities for the young people to develop creative thinking and artistic skills through direct engagement with established practitioners.
He said such initiatives would continue as part of Alhamra’s efforts to connect young people with the arts and provide them with platforms for creative growth.
The free workshop attracted a large number of young participants who actively engaged in the exercises and benefited from practical instruction in contemporary portrait-making techniques.
