KASUR: The Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) has removed all the three transformers from the Bhagiwal Tiba village allegedly to punish some defaulters leaving all residents without electricity, Dawn has learnt.

According to residents, there were 450 consumers in the village while 23 had defaulted on their electricity bill payments. They claimed that Lesco officials had removed all the transformers to force the defaulters to pay their bills some nine days back.

The villagers said that Lesco was punishing the entire community and termed it exploitation.

They demanded the Lesco high-ups look into the matter as they were left with no choice but to come on the road.

When contacted, Lesco Executive Engineer (EXEN) Tariq Bashir claimed that the entire village was using electricity by illegal means and there were no meters in the village.

When asked as to why Lesco had installed transformers in the village when there were no meters and why Lesco remained silent for years, the EXEN disconnected the phone call and did not respond despite repeated requests.

Meanwhile, PML-N MPA Ehsan Raza had also expressed concern over his failure to restore the power in his constituency in an interview with a private channel on Thursday.
