QUETTA: The Balochistan Assembly’s Standing Committee on Irrigation on Thursday reviewed the proposed Balochistan Water Resources Management Bill 2026, which seeks to establish a legal framework for the integrated, efficient and sustainable management of the province’s water resources.

The meeting was presided over by Prince Ahmed Umar Ahmedzai, who was nominated as presiding officer by committee members in the absence of the permanent chairman.

The proposed legislation aims to reorganise institutions responsible for land and water management to improve their capacity and performance and establish an integrated system to address existing and future challenges related to water resources. The bill also seeks to advance institutional reforms in line with the Balochistan Water Policy and promote sustainable development.
