Speeding at 174km/h: car driver lands in lockup

TOBA TEK SINGH: The National Highways & Motorway Police (NHMP) has intensified action against serious traffic violations resulting in the registration of FIRs.

According to NHMP spokesperson Syed Imran Ahmad, a vehicle was intercepted near Pirmahal on M-3 speeding at an extremely dangerous speed of 174km/h.

Legal action was initiated against the driver and an FIR was subsequently registered by Rajana, Toba Tek Singh, police against driver Fayaz Ahmad who belonged to Ahmadpur East, Bahawalpur. He was handed over to police.

In another case, NHMP intercepted an overloaded trailer near Nankana Sahib on M-3. During inspection, the vehicle was found carrying weight beyond the permissible limit. The driver was handed over to police for legal proceedings, and an FIR was registered by Sharqpur police.

ENCOUNTERS: Two robbers were killed in separate encounters with CCD at Pirmahal and Faisalabad on Wednesday night.

Police sources said after seeing revolving light on a police van near Chak 693/35 GB in Pirmahal tehsil, suspects opened fire on policemen which was also returned in self-protection.

“When the firing stopped, police found one of them dead who received bullets fired by his two accomplices who escaped away from the scene.”

He was identified as Yaseen alias Bhaidu, a proclaimed offender involved in dozens of robberies.

His body was shifted to Pirmahal THQ Hospital.

At Faisalabad near Kukkarwala bypass in Chak Jhumra tehsil, a joint CCD team led by Lyallpur Town in charge Siddiq Cheema, Madina Town in charge Syed Iram Raza Shah and Iqbal Town in charge Ali Akram Goraya was present to arrest criminals when the suspects opened fire on policemen which was also retaliated in-self defence.

When the firing ended, police saw one of the criminals dead by the firing of his accomplices. He was identified as Sufian Shaukat, a shooter involved in the murder of more than 15 people. He was a member of notorious shooters gang.

Sources said he had come to Faisalabad to shoot a brother of a politician. His accomplices managed to flee.

VISIT: Secretary Local Government Punjab Zain Bin Maqsood and Deputy Commissioner Faisalabad Muhammad Noman Siddique visited Chak Jhumra and Tandlianwala where they reviewed the implementation of various development schemes under the Punjab Development Programme.

The secretary directed that the pace of work on all development schemes under the Punjab Development Programme should be further accelerated and public welfare projects should be completed within the stipulated time in a transparent manner. He clarified that no compromise should be made on the quality of development projects and continuous monitoring of construction works should be ensured.

UAF: The Agrarian Society at the University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) organised an event to enable new students to interact with senior students.

The event featured an introductory session in which senior students shared their experiences and welcomed the newcomers to the university community.
