Warrants out for KP CM over ‘no-show’ in Nov 26 protest case

ISLAMABAD: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Wednesday re-issued arrest warrants for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and other individuals in connection with the Nov 26 protest case after they failed to comply with judicial summons.

The accused did not appear during Wednesday’s hearing, prompting Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra to re-issue arrest warrants in connection with a case registered at the Margalla police station.

During the hearing, the police also failed to submit the case challan. The court directed the police to submit the challan promptly and adjourned the hearing until Oct 9.

The direction came after the court was informed that the required document had not been filed, delaying the proceedings.

The Nov 26 protest case has been under judicial consideration, with the ATC issuing repeated orders for the appearance of the nominated individuals.

The failure of the accused to appear and the police’s failure to file the challan have slowed the proceedings. The reissued warrants require law enforcement agencies to arrest and produce the nominated individuals before the court.
